We love entertaining at our home. In fact, it’s one of the reasons we’ve stayed committed to remaining in our city condo — it has a fabulous, open layout for parties. Since we’ve had kids, our in-home parties have made more of a move towards the birthday variety (although those are always a big bash for the adults, too), but we decided to host some of our good friends for a winter brunch this past weekend. It was a great way to catch up with everyone post-holidays.
Anticipating cold weather, I decided to have a “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” brunch and have plenty of yummy goodies to warm everyone up (good thing I picked Saturday because Sunday was almost 50 degrees!). I set up a make your own hot chocolate bar for the kids, complete with a variety of hot chocolate “spoons” they could mix in to warm milk to create hot chocolate. My own kids helped me make them and they were a big hit! I wrapped extras up in little plastic bags for goodies as well. The adults warmed up with a Bloody Mary bar — I can attest that the Sriracha Mary did the trick lickety split. I put out a few other suggested recipes and plenty of fixings to make whatever type of Bloody Mary your little heart desired. They were delish.
I finally got a chance to make one of those tassel garlands I’ve been eyeing for so long and I’m hooked. Expect lots of tassels in my near future. I made mini tassels for the drink stirrers/picks, too. I think they turned out super cute. And I never miss an opportunity to loop in striped paper straws.
I kept brunch food simple {but never plain!} with donut + berry skewers, baked egg + prosciutto cups (SO easy and so seriously delicious), relatively healthy strawberry muffins (no sugar added), yummy winter salad (it’s Paleo friendly and will be in regular rotation in our house from now on — I even learned how to de-seed a pomegranate the easy way), and itty bitty yogurt + granola parfaits. Everything seemed to go over well with kids and adults alike and we had a lovely time visiting with our friends while all the kids played nicely and mostly without incident!
Still chilly in your neck of the woods? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. A Feteful Life’s “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” brunch invitation and party pack are now available for purchase in our Etsy store. Here’s to staying warm and feteful!
