I love, love, love renting a house on family vacations. It’s just so much easier with the kids and prevents the whole “we are trapped in a room with our children after 8 pm every night” routine that happens when you stay at a hotel. But sometimes staying in a home means you are stuck with all the accompanying housework (dishes, laundry, cooking, etc.) and that can drive me nuts — it doesn’t feel like a real vacation then. But our recent trip to Bluefields Bay, Jamaica was the complete and total opposite of that and it was AWESOME. We were completely spoiled in the best, low-key way possible. A gorgeous home, delicious local cuisine, a fabulous childcare helper, continuous cocktail service. All that and we were smack on a quiet, beautiful beach. But still within easy access of lots of activities (fishing, horseback riding, boating, waterfall swimming!). The only bad thing about it was we had to leave … eventually. But don’t take my word for it. Check out the pictures (yes, all of ’em) and then I’d book a trip.
1 / a long trip; red stripe roadies; roadside lunch from Border Jerk {holy cow, yum}
2 / exploring the house; pool time; sunset view
5 / more pool; mangoes off the tree; afternoon downtime, including a general no-TV policy exception for World Cup; selfie
6 / deep sea fishing for the boys = lots of fish for everyone
7 / mid-day jerk lunch; more downtime {seeing a pattern yet?}
9 / rain rolling in; candlelit dinner
10 / Black River cruise; crocodiles
{the end. now go}
Wow, wow, wow
